JOB SUMMARY:

The client is seeking an Associate Architect to play a key leadership role within a growing, design-led architectural studio. This position will support the Director in the day-to-day running of the practice while leading the delivery of multiple projects across all stages.

The studio is an established, London-based architecture practice with a strong focus on high-quality residential design. Known for its thoughtful, detail-driven approach, the team delivers bespoke projects ranging from private homes to multi-unit developments, with an emphasis on design integrity, materiality, and client experience.

Reporting directly to the Director, this role will act as a second-in-command, bridging leadership and delivery across the studio. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing teams, overseeing project workflows, and maintaining strong client relationships, while contributing to the ongoing development of the studio’s design and cultural agenda.

This position is suited to an experienced architect ready to step into a senior leadership role, combining project delivery, team management, and operational oversight within a collaborative and creative studio environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director in the day-to-day running of the studio, ensuring smooth operations across projects and team activities

  • Manage and mentor a team of 3-6 architects and assistants, including conducting performance reviews and one-to-one meetings

  • Oversee project resourcing, programming, and contribute to cash flow management

  • Respond to new client enquiries, prepare fee proposals, and support business development and job-winning activities

  • Act as a key link between the Director and wider team, supporting communication and studio-wide coordination

  • Lead the delivery of multiple projects simultaneously (typically 5–10), ensuring quality and efficiency across all stages

  • Maintain strong client relationships, providing dedicated and proactive client management

  • Assemble and coordinate consultant teams, ensuring effective collaboration throughout project lifecycles

  • Oversee and contribute to drawing packages across all work stages

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, including cost estimates at each stage

  • Undertake sustainability and technical reviews of live projects

  • Prepare schedules of work and specifications for tender purposes

  • Lead tender processes, including contractor selection and appointment

  • Chair and lead meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors

  • Oversee contract administration, valuations, and on-site project delivery

  • Manage project completion, including snagging and handover

  • Support recruitment of new team members and contribute to shaping studio culture

  • Organise studio activities including visits, events, and field trips

Requirements & eXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in a senior architectural role, ideally at Associate level

  • Strong leadership and team management experience within a studio environment

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects from concept through to completion

  • Excellent client-facing skills with a proactive and professional approach

  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of construction and delivery processes

  • Experience in contract administration, tendering, and consultant coordination

  • Commercial awareness, including budgeting and resource planning

  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands

  • Collaborative, design-focused, and aligned with a high-quality architectural approach

This is an opportunity to join a well-regarded, design-led practice in a pivotal leadership role, working closely with the Director to shape both project delivery and the continued growth of the studio.
